How About An Indoor Vegetable Garden

When  vegetable gardening is concerned, the more land you have, the better. If you don’t have a big space in your backyard you can still have a vegetable garden by having it indoors.

The first thing to consider is the type of vegetables you need. There are  plenty of  vegetables you can have in an indoor garden. The ones that work best are the smaller  vegetables such as capsicums, tomatoes, carrots and cucumbers. Any vegetable that can be planted in a container without being  restricted from growing  can be used in an indoor vegetable garden.

Choosing For Your Indoor Vegetable Garden

When choosing  vegetables  for your indoor garden, it is best to go to your local garden center and ask for  advice.  Be sure to ask them how to best plant the seedlings as some vegetables require a  different type of planting.

The second issue to consider is the type of container to use. Containers with holes located in the bottom are  best.  This kind of  container allows  water to  drain away. This is important as too  much water could  drown the roots.

Check the exact measurements of the conatiner required  so that you  won’t end up buying the wrong size. For tomatoes and capsicums, large  containers are most appropriate. On the other hand, for  beans and  carrots - long and narrow containers are best. Other plants to consider for  indoor container gardening are cherry tomatoes,  peppers,  cucumbers and squash, spinach, Swiss chard,  lettuce,  cabbage,  eggplant and  onions.

The final but also one of the most important  thing to look into would be  soil. Make sure to prepare it with  sufficient nutrients for your plants. Do not use  soil from your outdoor space  to use in your indoor vegetable garden. This  might contain  unwanted things such as  weeds, insect pests etc.  A better choice is to buy  topsoil for indoor gardening. Check soil  temperature and moisture.  Ensure not to  over-water the plants – only  water moderately.

After a few  months, you will be growing  thriving vegetables better than the   ones in outdoor gardens and you can have fresh organic  vegetables all year  long.  Stick to these tips and your  indoor vegetable will be a raging success, also check out other pages here that deal with artificial lighting.
